Why is Insulation So Important For Your Garden Room?

Whether you will be using your garden room for work, exercise, as a playroom, an art studio or for dining, you will, of course, want to be able to enjoy it at any time of year which is made possible by having a well-constructed building. A garden room should be an extension of your home and that means it should also meet the same specifications in order for it to be comfortable and usable no matter the weather. One of the key factors in the makeup of the building is insulation so let’s take a look at why this is so important…

What is Insulation?

Insulation is a material layer that is placed within the wall and roof cavities to help to trap warm air and prevent it from escaping outside the building. These layers are what help to keep your home’s temperature consistent throughout the year, even during the very cold months, and with good insulation, you will also save you on your heating bills.

What Types of Insulation are Available?

The most common insulation material we all think of is glasswool or rockwool. These are those light, fluffy-looking panels of material that sit inside the frame of your home – typically either in wall spaces or in your attic area. These contain pockets of air that will trap the heat and prevent it from being lost from the building.

Insulation boards such as Celotex are an ideal way of insulating your building. Celotex insulation boards are PIR, (polyisocyanurate), which is produced as foam and then used as rigid insulation. This rigid core is sandwiched between two aluminium foil facings that will reflect the heat back inside the building, creating a tough, hard-wearing yet lightweight insulation option.

Other common types of insulation include blow-in cellulose, polyurethane foam, polyester matting and reflective foil. Each of these works to trap or repel heat.

Another insulation option you may want to consider is a noise-reducing one or acoustic insulation. This is made from a more dense material to also prevent noise from escaping- perfect if you are using your garden room as a music studio.

Benefits of Garden Room Insulation

  • Lower heating and cooling bills
  • Year round use
  • Improved comfort for person/people using it
  • Damp proofing
  • Soundproofing
  • Good for the environment
  • Increased property values

How Else Can You Insulate?

Insulation doesn’t just come from the wall construction, you can also ensure that your garden room is well insulated by choosing double or triple glazed windows, using draft excluders at the doors, choosing thermal curtains that will trap warm air inside and by adding soft furnishings.
