The Rule Of Six: Socialising In Your Garden This Year
26th April 2021
At long last, in the UK we are slowly emerging from the third lockdown. It is now legal for you to entertain up to five guests at your home, albeit only outside in your garden. It is therefore more important than ever to get the most from your outdoor space so you can start socialising in your garden!
Here are some of the things you need to consider before sending out the invites!
Stay warm and toasty
Socialising in your garden is all well and good, but it’s open to the elements. At this time of year the weather can be completely unpredictable, and a day that starts out with brilliant sunshine can get very chilly in the evening. Last week there was even snow!
Anyone who has frozen their toes off in a pub garden recently will know that patio heaters are a must have item for 2021. Alternatively, fire pits can pack a punch and they look pretty too – although this isn’t a good idea if you’ve got kids wandering around as they can be dangerous and should never be left unsupervised.
At the very least, you’re going to need a box of blankets for those nippy nights. A gazebo can also also be a lifesaver if the weather turns wet, or if you really want to push the boat out then a garden pod could be a solution!
Cook up a storm
A decent host would never leave their guests hungry! An outdoor pizza oven is the most desirable outdoor cooking solution this year, with authentic wood-fired ovens and fool proof gas and electric options available for a variety of budgets.
Not in love with Italian cuisine? A built-in barbecue might offer your guests more variety.
Get the drinks flowing with an outdoor bar
Socialising in your garden and don’t want to keep disappearing into the house? With an outdoor garden bar you can be the host with the most and provide your guests with regular top ups on tap, or go the whole hog and make amazing cocktails like a pro. Plus, it looks really cool!
Let there be light!
The evenings are getting lighter but it still gets dark earlier than you might want to call it a night. If you don’t have outside lighting, then a cheap solution is to buy solar lights which can soak up the rays from the sun during the day, and then light up the garden path by night!
Sit down and get comfortable
Wooden garden chairs are all well and good for a short time but if you don’t have comfy seating, your friends won’t want to come back!
Beautiful rattan garden seating with cushions are a luxurious choice which suit being left outside in the garden, swing chairs are also great for relaxing. A matching table will give guests somewhere to place their food and drinks.
Let the music play
Add ambience to your gathering with an outdoor speaker.
Not too loud, mind; you don’t want to upset the neighbours! But a bit of music, or letting your guests pick the playlist, can make all the difference.
